To Our Athlete's Families

January 16, 2015

North Jr. Knights Parents,

Over the last several years, youth and high school football has experienced a decline in participation throughout the country.  While there has been a tremendous effort to enhance the safety and training within tackle football, other factors including earlier concentration on one sport has impacted both the game and number of players participating.

Three years ago, we were asked to develop a dedicated high school feeder football program.  We were led to believe we would have the full backing of the high school and a home within the local league.  As we moved forward in establishing the North Jr. Knights, that was not the case.  We became just one of three recognized feeder programs for the high school and were blocked from joining the local league.  It created an extremely difficult environment.  Each year we have tried in good faith to resolve these issues but have not been sufficiently supported.

In spite these issues, the North Jr. Knights organization has gone on to provide hundreds of student athletes in our community with a safe, high quality, tremendously successful football and cheer program.  Our focus and goals have always been centered on doing what is best for our athletes and community.

As a direct result of these challenges and in a full effort to enhance the strength of our community’s youth football options, the North Jr. Knights Board of Directors has elected to dissolve our program effective immediately.   At this critical time, we confidently believe youth football does not need more programs – we need better, stronger programs focused on enhancing safety, teamwork and sense of community among the players, coaches, parents and sponsors.  We have every confidence this decision will provide families the opportunity for an even better experience for their athletes based on their individual needs- no matter their age, level of play, or personal skill sets.

Collectively as coaches, we are exploring a variety of options for the 2016 season.  Open registration is approaching and we recognize you will need to determine what program you will now call home.  We will keep you abreast of our individual plans recognizing they may play a role in your decision.

Once again, we have genuinely appreciated your ongoing support over the last three years and wish each of you the best of luck in 2016, with whichever program you find to be the best fit for your family.  Should you have questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to any of us.
